This ongoing project explores the duality of identity within two generations of Sikh Indian immigrants in the UK. The first generation, part of the Indian diaspora in Kenya (then a British colony), brought with them rich traditions, faith, and a strong sense of community as they sought better lives in Britain.
Their British-born children navigate a complex cultural landscape, being caught between two worlds – their family heritage and the broader British society.
The project reflects the delicate balance of heritage and adaptation, exploring how a new generation forges a sense of self that is both deeply rooted in their Indian-Kenyan origins, yet undeniably shaped by their British upbringing.
It is a story of resilience, duality, and the enduring mark of the immigrant journey.
