The project captures the unexpected journey of an immigrant nanny in Ireland, navigating language barriers and cultural differences. Using disposable cameras, I documented the lives of R and S, bridging the gap between adult logic and childhood spontaneity.
These images reveal the joy, curiosity, and raw emotion of our evolving relationship, showing how we communicated beyond words. Photography became a shared language; they redefined what was established in the adult world through play, and I played to take photos. The project ultimately transformed both my perspective and our connection.
This project has been selected for BOP 24 Photobook Dummy by the Martin Parr Foundation and The Royal Photographic Society in Bristol, United Kingdom.
Special thanks to Sorcha and Cornmac for trusting me to care for and capture their children’s unique personalities.
The following images are a short selection of the project.
